Dr. Degrando Franks Jr.
Born July 25 1956, Hollywood FL , Third generation Church of God minister and is the son of Bishop Degrando Franks Sr. & Helen Franks. Bishop Franks Jr. married his college sweetheart April 4th 1981 and is the father of three children, Jorgie, Bishop Degrando III(Rachel), and Philip. He is also the grandfather of five granddaughters, Taylor Janae, Kalia Renee, Maya Shannise , Kai Leigh and Karina.
Dr. Franks currently serves as the Lead Pastor of North Metropolitan Church of God, Longwood FL since 2009. Prior to this assignment Dr. Franks was Lead Pastor of International Harvest Center Church of God, Tampa FL where he served with distinction for 12 years. (Under Dr. Franks’s leadership, International Harvest Center was recognized at General Assembly as a Life Giving Church) Dr. Franks served the Church of God in Richmond Va from 1988 to 1998 as Lead Pastor of two churches and served as Assistant Pastor of Victory Tabernacle for 6 years. Dr. Franks served the Church of God in California for 4 years prior to Virginia. Bishop Franks was licensed as an Ordained Bishop by the International Offices of the Church of God, Cleveland TN in early 1994. Bishop Franks was elected to the Cocoa FL office Bishops Council in 2006 and served as the State Ministerial Internship Program (MIP) Coordinator for four years. Bishop Franks currently serves as a member of the licensing committee for the Church of God, Tampa offices.
Bishop Franks completed Hollywood Hills High School, Hollywood Fl. Bishop Franks did undergraduate work at Florida A & M University, Tallahassee Florida, Lee University (correspondence), with graduate studies completed in Tampa FL at Blessed Hope Bible College where he graduated with a Doctorate degree in Theology and later served as Dean of Theology and Board Member. Since 2011Bishop Franks has taught at Spirit University as Associate Professor.
Dr. Franks is the President and Founder of COPE Inc. (Community Organization to Promote Empowerment). COPE Inc. is responsible for feeding over one million hot meals in a ten year period. Cope Inc. partners with other non-profits in disaster relief throughout the state of Florida. Cope Inc. has impacted the Tampa FL area with innovative programs such as credit counseling, debt consolidation, free income tax preparation and earned income tax credits. The NFL awarded Bishop Franks and COPE Inc. the distinction of Hometown Hero in 2002. Cope was also awarded with a High Impact Award from Somebody Cares Tampa Bay as “Most Compassionate” in 2004. Bishop Franks also served as a Board member of Tampa Bay Area Faith Based Alliance, Compassion Worldwide, Woman’s Aglow and served as Chaplain of Tampa Fire and Rescue Dept. for many years.
